New Employer Identifier Rule Published:
The Department of Health and Human Services has released its HIPAA regulation defining a standard Employer Identifier. It is the Internal Revenue Services' EIN, which businesses that pay employee wages already use.
The effective date of the final Employer Identifier rule is July 30, 2002, with compliance required 24 months later on July 30, 2004.
