HIPAA TCS Status Summary of Compliance per CMS

HIPAA TCS Claims Compliance Increases, Says CMS at the Dec. 2003 Meeting of DHHS Subcommittee on Standards and Security:

Continuing an upward trend, covered entities' compliance with HIPAA claims standards has risen to 50%, a federal official said last month. Only a handful of complaints has rolled in concerning these claims, "maybe about ten that were valid," said Karen Trudel, deputy directory for HIPAA standards at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Trudel addressed a meeting of federal and private officials on HIPAA security and standards.

At the same time, CMS is finding some problems with covered entities ability to convert non-HIPAA transactions from their trading partners into HIPAA-compliant transactions. "We're working that through-basically trading partner by trading partner, and I understand that we're making some really good progress there," Trudel said.
